Persio Arida

Chairman of the Board of Directors, BTG Pactual


Persio Arida is Chairman of the Board of Directors of BTG Pactual. He is based in São Paulo.

Arida joined BTG in 2008 as a partner. Prior to BTG Pactual, Arida was Governor of the Central Bank of Brazil and President of the National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES). In the private sector Arida was Board Member of Itaú, Vale, Unibanco and Sul América. He was also Director of Opportunity Asset Management and Brazil Warrant Holdings.

Arida holds a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has published several papers in specialized journals. He was a Professor at the University of São Paulo and at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. Arida held research appointments at Oxford University, Smithsonian Institution and the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton.

He is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the Blavatnik School of Government (Oxford), a member of the Corporate Development Committee of MIT and the Advisory Committee of the IMF.
