Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón

Former Minister of Justice / Former Mayor of Madrid

Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón has been Permanent Advisor of the Advisory Council of the Community of Madrid, in his capacity as former President of the Community of Madrid, from September 25, 2014 to December 31, 2015.

He was part of the Government of Spain as Minister of Justice from his appointment on December 22, 2011, until his resignation on September 24, 2014.

His political career began in 1977 when he joined the newly formed People's Alliance (now known as the Popular Party or PP).

He has held numerous positions both in this Party [Member of the Executive Committee and Secretary General (1986), Vice President (1987), member of the National Executive Committee (1989)] and in various institutions [Councilman for the City of Madrid (1983), Deputy in the Regional Assembly (1987, 1991, 1995 and 1999), Senator (1987, 1989 and 1993), President of the Community of Madrid (1995 and 1999), and Mayor of Madrid in (2003, 2007 and 2011)].

In 2007, he became the Mayor of Madrid, receiving the most votes in the history of the city, and then successfully defending his position in the subsequent election.

In the general elections of November 20, 2011 he was elected Deputy of the Congress of Deputies by the circumscription of Madrid, having renounced his deputy act on September 24, 2014.
