Minister of Tourism
Prior to his appointment as Tourism Minister in December 2015, Gustavo Santos was President of the Tourism Agency for the Province of Cordoba (2007-2015) and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Tourism Promotion Agency INPROTUR. He was also a member of the National Tourism Secretariat, Vice President of the Federal Tourism Council (CFT) and an active participant in UNWTO networks and fora.
Minister Santos’ main priorities are to bolster public private investment in tourism infrastructure and connectivity, focusing too on stronger promotion abroad and the generation of employment opportunities.
Santos had a long career in the governments of the province and the municipality of Córdoba before heading the province’s Tourism Board. His posts included Director for Youth Promotion (1985), Director for Cultural Action (1986), serving as a full member of the Ibero-American Municipalists Union, and Director General for Culture (1987-1991). In the Municipality of Córdoba, he served as Undersecretary for Culture, Education & Tourism (1991-1995), Secretary of the Government (1995-1999), Secretary for Human Development & Citizen Participation (1999), Municipal Counsellor (1999-2003), and Provincial Lawmaker (2004-2007), where he was Vice President of the Legislature’s Tourism Committee.
Santos has been awarded Knight of the Order of Academic Palms (France, 1995) and the OLLANTAY award of the Latin American Centre for Theatrical Research (CELCIT) Venezuela (1991).
He has a Philosophy & Arts Degree from the National University of Córdoba, a Master’s in State Policy from the Catholic University of Cordoba (UCC)/ Georgetown University (Washington), and has diplomas in Business Management (UCC) and Tourism Management (AECI, Andalucía).
